Purple Wedding Dresses

We don't all have to wear white on our wedding day. When you have all the choices in the world for your wedding dress, why go with the same thing everyone else does? Breakout of the mold and be your own person, you'll feel free and beautiful. And what is more magical and royal than wearing the color of royalty on the day you get to be a princess? Purple is that color of royalty. So why not pick from a wide variety of purple wedding dresses? Mainly because there just aren't that many choices. Buying a purple wedding dress is a bit like trying to find a ladybug on a tree; darned difficult but worth the effort.

Are there any specific purple dresses specifically for wedding dresses? Yes, there are. There are wedding boutiques which sell every style, color and size of dress. And I thank the positive universe forces that created the Internet because you can find anything you could ever want right here, online. Now I'll tell you a couple of reasons why buying a purple wedding dress online is a good idea.

1. It's going to be really hard to find a wedding dress in purple, but online you have the whole world at your fingertips. You may have to pay a little extra for shipping, but you'll find what you're looking for.

2. We girls know exactly what we want in terms of style, length and color. We have our perfect dress in our heads for a very long time. In fact, if any of you are like me, you were planning your dress in the womb. The Internet gives the option of buying a ready made dress, but with all the competition out there, there is an opportunity to get a dress specially made. A specially made dress needs very little alterations. And all you need to do is get take the correct measurements.

3. The Internet brings competition and competition breeds price wars. The competition doesn't only lower the price, it lowers shipping charges, usually to free.

If you're leery of buying a wedding dress online, trust me when I write : don't be! I bought my wedding dress online and it was the best thing I could have done. While there can be a lot of problems online, if you've got a good idea of what you want in your dress, there isn't a better place to find your dress than online.

When searching for purple wedding dresses, it's useful to know the different shades of purple. There are hundred of different shades in the purple family. Here is a really good color chart when it comes to purple shades. http://www.december.com/html/spec/color4.html

While you can have your dress specially made, you can find some beautifully ready-made dresses online. While some of them are specifically wedding dresses; those are few and far between. The trick is to be creative when doing the search. Check out things like ball gowns, Quinceanera, and pageant dresses.

Purple Bridesmaid Dresses

When shopping for bridesmaids dresses, there are probably a thousand things to think about. In fact, I got so frustrated trying to find a dress that all my bridesmaid could agree on that I just gave the job to them. It makes life a lot easier to just hand the job over to women who already know what looks good on them, and what makes them comfortable. What you don't want is having 6 women standing next to you on your wedding day feeling uncomfortable, ugly and fidgeting.

Bridesmaids dresses have a history of being unflattering, one time use, floofy, poofy, hot messes. The honor of being a bridesmaid has been detracted from by horrible, horrible dresses. Today the world is different and the bridesmaids dresses are genuinely gorgeous.

Choosing a bridesmaid dress without considering the implications of how it fits on each figure, is a bit like playing Russian Roulette with your wedding day pictures. Some girls are heaver on top and if you put them in the wrong dress, well what do you think most people are going to look at in your wedding photos? Other girls are uncomfortable with their arms, put them in a strapless dress with no wrap, and you'll have a halfhearted smile in the pictures. And put the wrong color of purple bridesmaid dresses on your girls, and you'll have a hot mess for sure.

Purple, like any other color, has certain shades which look great on certain skin tones and colorings. Conversely, there are shades which look terrible on certain skin tones and colorings. Put a lavender with gray overtones on a woman with dark hair and olive/white skin and they'll look like a carp in an evening gown. Choosing a purple bridesmaid dress is all about finding the right shade for the right gal.

It's difficult to adhere to all the rules of color. I mean you have to match the eyes with the skin tone and the hair, and you have to do it with all the bridesmaids. And the worst part is, if you've given them the job of picking their dress, they may not realize that the color might be unbecoming. My suggestion is pick the color before giving them the dress shopping. Once they have a general idea of what color to choose, they'll have a narrower field of dresses. To find the perfect purple dresses for all your bridesmaids, visit a fabric store and simply hold up fabric next to their face. You'll notice right away when a color looks terrible because your bridesmaid's face will look dull.

Next make sure that the dresses they pick will flatter each bridesmaid in style as well as color. Be considerate of girls who aren't comfortable with their legs, arms, chest or any other part. If the dress accentuates a negative, she's going to be uncomfortable, unhappy and generally have an unbearable time. Choose a dress that cover the problem areas and reveal the positive ones. If it's a little difficult to figure out what works, the best choices are a-line skirts and empire waist dresses. Sleeveless dresses can always be worn with a wrap, be sure that all your bridesmaids have one if any are uncomfortable with no sleeves.

One last thing about purple bridesmaid dresses, they look fabulous when different shades are mixed. My favorite compilation is 5 lavender bridesmaids and a royal purple maid of honor dress. Purple is just one of those colors that looks terrific when mixed within its own color spectrum.

Lately I've been considering what my wedding would have been like if I'd gone away from traditional styles and opted for a flapper dress or a Hollywood glamor wedding or any of the hundreds of women's dresses out there. I'm almost tempted to have another wedding in order to find out. Instead I think I'll do what I usually do, which is just sit back and plan weddings in my head and share them with everyone else.

When choosing wedding dresses, women almost always opt for white. White has always been the color of purity and innocence, which is why, historically, it was the dress color of choice. Wearing white on the wedding day was a symbol to anyone watching that the bride was pure. Today, while not always untrue, it is a little kick in the face of women's rights. Women are practically forced to wear white by all the dresses thrown at us. Walk into a bridal shop and the harlot red dresses are a little hard to come by. And dagnammit I want some red harlot dresses. Which brings me to my next point.

Red women's dresses for weddings. Most people think the opposite of a white wedding dress is a black wedding dress. In some ways they are correct, but not when you consider what the white wedding dress meant. As I mentioned white meant purity and innocence, and the opposite of that is not black, its red. Did you know that during the revolutionary war, women wore red wedding dresses to support the freedom it symbolized? And while black isn't unheard of for a wedding dress, hardly any women chooses red these days. Why not? Maybe women think its the color of devilry? But its not, its the color of boldness and passion. What color roses mean love? Red! What happens when you you're excited or angry? Your red blood flows faster. We even associate passion with one of the most used terms red-hot. Or how about red-blooded? So think about a red wedding dress and what it symbolizes for your honeymoon!

Speaking of black wedding dresses, why aren't more women getting married in black or black-and-white? Its such a perfect color. My dress was black and white and when I first saw it, more than any other dress, it knocked my socks off. OK, maybe not literally...or maybe a little literally! Don't get me wrong, I love the white dresses for brides, but its just so ... done. Its time for new and interesting. Some of the black dresses are so gorgeous its really hard to resist.

Where are all the green wedding dresses? I really think there aren't enough women watching Gone with the Wind. There are some beautiful green women's dresses, sundresses and formal dresses usually, but hardly any green wedding dresses. Remember that gorgeous dress from Gone with the Wind? Green velvet.. mm mm mm. If you're having a winter wedding, you should think about darker colored dresses like forest green.

I've put together some great funky dresses, which I think reflect a little style and drama for a wedding day and aren't the same old thing.

I worked really hard to get an affiliation with House Of Brides because it was where I bought my wedding dress. They have pretty much every style of dress you want, and when other places were asking 1200 bucks for my dress, I paid 800 for it at House of Brides. I specifically wanted to feature them here on this page with Amazon, for this reason.

I've put together a bunch of funky wedding dresses from House of Brides. Each link here will take you to their site, and it's worth it to check their products out. I seriously doubt you're going to find the same selection and prices anywhere else.

Clicking these pictures will take you off site to the dress shops!
