Purple Prom Dresses

Prom is one of my favorite times of year. Even here, in Sweden, they've adapted our American "prom" event. And why not! Prom is a right of passage (as said by more than Robert Pattinson I promise you). Prom is one of the few times that us non-celebrities can get dressed up in formal, sexy gowns with fun jewelry and shoes. It's no wonder that men and women all over the world are getting into the spirit. One thing they all have in common is, unlike celebrity events etc, high school women actually pick out colors other than red and black. I don't knock either color, they're both beautiful, but they need more women like the ladies who wear purple prom dresses.

I have to confess, I love my job. I loved my job when I was a personal shopper and now I love my job just shopping for dresses. All day long I get to hunt down the prettiest dresses for you beautiful women to wear. I'd, of course, love to be able to wear all of them too, but I don't see that happening anytime soon! So when you're shopping for your prom dress on my site, you know that I'm picking out the dresses with you in mind.

Find moredresses for prom.

When it comes to prom, nothing makes you stand out more, in a good way, than getting a color that stands out. Purple stands out, but it's elegant too. A purple prom dress will definitely be one of a kind (unless, of course, more gals from your school are reading this =)).

A lot of people forget that the dress needs to match their date's apparel. Most people choose black because it looks great and it matches everything. But purple works with black beautifully. It also matches other purple shades. What it doesn't go with, well, is bright colors like blue, pink, red and yellow. While those are beautiful wedding colors, standing next to your yellow-clad date and bright purple dress might be a little loud. But a prom dress doesn't just need to match your date, it needs to match the accessories and shoes. Or more appropriately worded: it needs accessories that match the dress.

One of the funnest things when getting dressed for prom is pulling out all the stops. One of the hardest things to do is pulling out all the stops without going overboard. I can easily go overboard with accessories because they're all so cute. There's tiaras, gloves, shoes, wraps, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, little hair decorations and so on. It's my suggestion to just pick a few of the accessories, unlike me. Just remember: less is more, simple is elegant.

Purple Evening Dresses

One of my favorite things are evening dresses, and purple evening dresses are some of the prettiest. Finding the prettiest dresses for evening wear isn't difficult. Finding purple ones? Well that's a different story. Why is it so hard to find a purple evening dress? Maybe too many people are still inside that box of red and black for formal occasions.

The top selling colors are always red, black and white. But other colors are so pretty, and largely ignored by the fashion community. When I see red carpet photos, magazine covers, dress shop advertisements etc, I'm always inundated with black and red dresses. If you're ready to buy an evening dress, go with a color that is beautiful, elegant, feminine and really sexy; purple. As I mention over and over, purple is the color of royalty. It's also a color which inspires a lot of spiritual clothing.

An evening dress needs to have a lot of things. It has to fit the formality of the occasion, it has to have the right accessories and shoes, it needs to match the wearer's skin tone and it has to look fantastic.

There isn't a single particular style or cut of dress that looks better than the rest. Each dress cut has the perfect figure it matches. Each skin tone has it's perfect color match, even within the same shades. Take, for instance, lavender, it's beauty is subtle and sweet, but on some skin tones it will make a woman looked washed out. Purple evening dresses have hundreds of different shades and styles, to find your perfect match is just to see which one makes your face look brighter.

I'm a gal that loves more than just an evening dress, more than just a purple evening dress, I love everything about getting dressed up in formal wear and adding all the accessories and shoes. I love fixing my makeup and the opportunity to strut and feel like a princess, or celebrity. The only reason I ever even look up celebrity things is when I get to see their outfits. While I don't enjoy acting, singing or anything like that, I can appreciate the fun it must be to get to wear evening dresses so often. If I ever make thousands of dollars I'm going to make every charity contribution and political contribution I can, to help the causes of course, but also to get to wear the fabulous glamorous gowns! Long or short, purple evening gowns are the perfect color for any event and I'm a bit miffed that more people don't show it off. The thing is if you like red and you like blue, purple is the combination of both. It's the perfect mix of hot and cool. Red hot and blue, right? Evening gowns demand a certain style of accessories. A clutch or evening bag, beautiful jewelry (it doesn't have to be excessive), high heel shoes (because you want to look stately right?) and a wrap for the warmth (or, if you're like me, to hide the arms you hate!). There are hundreds of styles of both and I've put together a few here for you =).

Purple Cocktail Dresses

50's Strapless Satin Formal Bridesmaid Prom Dress

Does anyone actually watch a red carpet for more than the outfits? I can't figure out anything interesting. I mean of course someone every once in a great while blurts out or does something stupid on the red carpet, but that just mars the experience for me. I watch the red carpet to see thee dresses and jewelry, wraps, purses and hairstyles. One problem I notice is there are hardly any purple cocktail dresses. What is that?

Purple is glorious. It's the color of royalty and certain shades are the color of innocence. With all the perfect shades of purple that are available, there is a color that looks perfect with every skin tone, eye color and hair color (remember that not every shade looks great on every coloring).

Cocktail dresses are usually shorter, but there are long cocktail dresses available. It really depends on the formality of the occasion. The more formal a function is, the longer the dress should be. Buying a short purple cocktail dress is perfect for a small party, dinner date, wedding or, as anyone watching the Emmys can see, some red carpet events. Purple is the right color because it stands out in a beautiful way. It's different but still elegant. While most women are pouring themselves into black and red dresses, wearing a purple dress is the perfect way to be noticed.

Purple is one of those colors that looks great with other shades of purple. I remember a particular dress from a movie where the dress was a light purple with a royal purple belt. It’s just stunning as a secondary color.

If you’re looking for some accessories to match your purple dress, you can find a lot of different types. Having the perfect pair of shoes, jewelry and evening clutch is really important when buying a formal or semi formal dress. There is a lot to think about when matching. Should I go with beading? What color looks best with my dress?

Purple cocktail dresses don’t only look good with other shades of purple; they go great with black, yellow and white. The contrasting colors worn with a purple dress make the dress really pop. It’s important not to overshadow the dress with accessories that are too bright or too dark. Accessories should accent a dress, not be the centerpiece of it. Likewise having all the same color (matching your clutch, shoes and wrap to the dress , for example), will make the dress look blah. Yes BLAH! It’s really hard to accessories a cocktail dress right, because the dress itself is so important. The easiest way to figure out what is going to get noticed first when someone looks at the dress.

I love purple cocktail dresses made from silk chiffon (there are other fabrics used to make chiffon). The way it feels and moves is particularly beautiful. I just find that chiffon is a little like those breaths you take when you’re kissing romantically. Not the heavy breathing, but the ones right before your lips meets; that simple soft breath that you try to let out softly, that is how chiffon moves. So it’s my favorite, but I also love other fabrics.

Purple is a color that translates well to all fabrics and styles. Whatever fabric you’d like, a purple cocktail dress will look stunning and elegant. Just be sure to accessorize the dress, not dress the accessories.

Purple Bridesmaid Dresses

When shopping for bridesmaids dresses, there are probably a thousand things to think about. In fact, I got so frustrated trying to find a dress that all my bridesmaid could agree on that I just gave the job to them. It makes life a lot easier to just hand the job over to women who already know what looks good on them, and what makes them comfortable. What you don't want is having 6 women standing next to you on your wedding day feeling uncomfortable, ugly and fidgeting.

Bridesmaids dresses have a history of being unflattering, one time use, floofy, poofy, hot messes. The honor of being a bridesmaid has been detracted from by horrible, horrible dresses. Today the world is different and the bridesmaids dresses are genuinely gorgeous.

Choosing a bridesmaid dress without considering the implications of how it fits on each figure, is a bit like playing Russian Roulette with your wedding day pictures. Some girls are heaver on top and if you put them in the wrong dress, well what do you think most people are going to look at in your wedding photos? Other girls are uncomfortable with their arms, put them in a strapless dress with no wrap, and you'll have a halfhearted smile in the pictures. And put the wrong color of purple bridesmaid dresses on your girls, and you'll have a hot mess for sure.

Purple, like any other color, has certain shades which look great on certain skin tones and colorings. Conversely, there are shades which look terrible on certain skin tones and colorings. Put a lavender with gray overtones on a woman with dark hair and olive/white skin and they'll look like a carp in an evening gown. Choosing a purple bridesmaid dress is all about finding the right shade for the right gal.

It's difficult to adhere to all the rules of color. I mean you have to match the eyes with the skin tone and the hair, and you have to do it with all the bridesmaids. And the worst part is, if you've given them the job of picking their dress, they may not realize that the color might be unbecoming. My suggestion is pick the color before giving them the dress shopping. Once they have a general idea of what color to choose, they'll have a narrower field of dresses. To find the perfect purple dresses for all your bridesmaids, visit a fabric store and simply hold up fabric next to their face. You'll notice right away when a color looks terrible because your bridesmaid's face will look dull.

Next make sure that the dresses they pick will flatter each bridesmaid in style as well as color. Be considerate of girls who aren't comfortable with their legs, arms, chest or any other part. If the dress accentuates a negative, she's going to be uncomfortable, unhappy and generally have an unbearable time. Choose a dress that cover the problem areas and reveal the positive ones. If it's a little difficult to figure out what works, the best choices are a-line skirts and empire waist dresses. Sleeveless dresses can always be worn with a wrap, be sure that all your bridesmaids have one if any are uncomfortable with no sleeves.

One last thing about purple bridesmaid dresses, they look fabulous when different shades are mixed. My favorite compilation is 5 lavender bridesmaids and a royal purple maid of honor dress. Purple is just one of those colors that looks terrific when mixed within its own color spectrum.
