Women’s Dresses Dot Com About Us

I've been writing about women's dresses in the form of wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for years. I've developed an affinity for anything that twirls or makes a girl wiggle. I love the softness and femininity of dresses and I especially love the way a dress looks when worn.

After watching Sex and the City for the hundredth time, I decided I'd put my women's dresses styles blog out in the open and hope that more women have this affinity.

Brief historic look at the evolution of women's dresses from 1915 too today

The 1920's ushered in a new freeing era for women. Casting aside traditional dresses and forms such as bustles, long sleeves, heavy clothing and tall collars, women began their liberation from stifling clothes. Thus began a see saw of women's dresses styles that went from oppressed (Victorian and before :corsets, heavy modest dresses) boyish (1920s drop waist and flapper styles), to sexy (1930s glamor and mermaid gowns), to functional (1940s material rationing from the war) and back and forth between these styles until today when women wear a mixture of all dresses (even the corseted types (think wedding dresses)=0)). You can read more about this evolution on the vintage women's dresses page.

Today women's dresses come in hundreds of styles: summer dresses, winter dresses, vintage dresses, short dresses, tennis dresses etc.

Being a larger girl, I tend to write quite  a bit on plus size women's dresses. Today, more than any other time in history, there are more styles and designs available for the plus size girl. We're no longer forced to wear big baggy mu mu dresses, which are supposed to camouflage , but really just make us look like we're wearing a mobile tent. Expect to find some really interesting dress information about plus size dresses, including plus size vintage dresses, sundresses, and plus size formal women's dresses.

Just because I'm a big girl, doesn't preclude me from recognizing smaller sizes and how beautiful dresses can look on petite women and slim women. I love the sexy dresses of the past and there are some dresses that are made especially for women with smaller figures. While we can't all be a size 4-6, it certainly is nice to dream and envision those sizes if we aspire to them.

Dresses aren't just for women either. Expect some coverage of dresses for men on this site. I love the idea of my site being dedicated to not only women who love dresses, but everyone that loves dresses.

Today's woman is forgetting about the beauty of the dress as well as its simplicity. Dresses can be feminine and still be professional. They can go from day to night with just a few jewelry changes. They fit any budget and every size. When it comes to the dress, only women have something so uniquely defining in their clothing. While there are men who wear dresses, they are still uniquely feminine. Even the skirt cannot claim that unique category, as Scottish men are anything but feminine!
